OUR WORK

Whilst the core of the trade has been bespoke pieces made for private clients and businesses, we have been involved in many other projects and enterprises using wood working skills including many years of regular work at Winchester Cathedral and other churches in Hampshire and Wiltshire as well as commissions for a number of well known architects in some fine houses.

We use a variety of wood and materials with an emphasis on English and European timbers and natural finishes, all timber is responsibly sourced and our suppliers are all FSC approved.

Each individual piece is hand made and unique, in modern times modern materials and methods are appropriate and we use a variety of them although we do like to use traditional furniture construction methods too. For some items only age old techniques will do and despite having some modern machinery we also often use tools that are over a century old.

We can design and make furniture to most specifications whether it be a copy of an antique, from architects drawings or from the simplest sketch on the back of an envelope.  Contact us to talk about designing and making a bespoke piece or producing something from your own designs.

Prices are based on an hourly rate plus materials and can also discuss making to a specific budget.

We are happy to make and deliver individual pieces unfortunately we are not able to supply a fitting service.

ABOUT US

Nick established  a cabinet making business in a ramshackle cowshed in 1994 just outside Winchester in Hampshire, with Elaine joining him a few years later.  starting with simple bookcases, tables and chairs, the cabinet work and joinery rapidly became more advanced and he amassed an impressive private client list with work being commissioned for some of the finest houses in the area and working for a number of well known architects, but never neglecting the small commissions.  In 1998 they were invited to tender for work at Winchester Cathedral and over the intervening years completed many projects in the Cathedral Church itself, the environs of the Cathedral and many other churches in and around the Winchester diocese.

Elaine and Nick clearly work well together and in 2009 they took on a 17th Century failing country pub and, whilst Nick was able to make a few comission pieces, pub business became the focus of life as they built the trade and ran a successful pub for seven years, even winnng the SH CAMRA pub of the year in 2013

A desire to get back to the workshop and use Nick's wonderful talent and with a love of the West Country saw a move to South Devon in 2015, lucky enough to have found The Old Forge workshop on Galmpton Creek the business has been relaunched with an added delight of making traditional style Shepherd's huts.

" We like to design our work, but making things is what we do and we are very happy to make furniture from other designs or ideas.  Working with a client to get it just right is very rewarding, no matter the size of the project.  Influenced by the simplicity and innate elegance of simple Georgian furniture and beautiful functionality of American Shaker, our designs never look out of place in any setting and have an ageless quality,  This simplicity and functionality is also typified in the making of our Shepherds' huts."
